Virginia Violet and the Rays

Hailing from Detroit, ten piece “Modern Motown” outfit Virginia Violet and the Rays are giving the Motown sound a 21st century makeover. With only seven shows under their belt including the coveted Dally in the Alley, they are quickly redefining the the genre with their new EP “Meet Virginia Violet and the Rays.”

The single of the EP “Terminal” has a majestic, grandioso feel all while keeping a tight form. Violet’s bellowing vocal range accentuated by the bouncing piano and smooth horns produce a sound reminiscent of the days when Martha Reeves, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson reign supreme. The EP also includes “Casa Noche” a tribute to the hypnosis of love featuring a vocal round and a nylon string guitar solo.

Recorded down the road from the historic “Hitsville USA” where countless Motown hits were produced, the EP was done just as they did in the old days strictly live.
