Steve Taylor
Steve Taylor graduated from Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music in
1995 with a degree in songwriting. After returning to Michigan, Steve joined
Detroit based Yeah Loud Records artist
the Vudu Hippies. The band released the
CD Trampoline in 1997 to rave reviews
and a Detroit Music Awards nomination
for Album of the Year. The Vudu Hippies opened for such acts as Oasis, Spin
Doctors, Grand Funk Railroad, and Fuel,
and released two full length CDs in 2001 (Rise and Funsucker). In addition, the
Vudu Hippies also wrote and performed
the theme song to the NBC sketch
comedy pilot “Live on Tape.”
Steve also works as a freelance arranger
for horns, strings, and voice, with credits
on albums by Stewart Francke and Radiocraft. In 2000, Steve composed
and arranged the original score for the Detroit-based feature-length film “One
Half Gone.” In 2004, Steve produced the
CD Fall for his band Five Days Straight,
and his song “Without” was featured in a DVD of the show “Dawson’s Creek.” In
2005, Steve began performing as a solo acoustic artist, bringing his blend of
soulful original material and songs by his favorite artists to more intimate settings.
Steve is also a highly sought after side musician, playing live shows with local artists such as Tim Diaz, Steve Acho,
Karen Newman, Jody Raffoul, Corktown Popes, and Mitch Ryder. In December
2005, Steve released his first solo CD
“And So On…” In May 2009, bassist Bryan Frink and drummer Carey Weaver began joining Steve at his acoustic gigs for
some impromptu jamming. This led to
the formation of The Steve Taylor Three.
This trio grew organically together,
building their vast song list through audience requests, and extemporaneous performance.
In October of 2014, The Steve Taylor
Three released Check Your Baggage. It
is available on iTunes, and anywhere
you can still buy CDs. The band traveled
to Nashville in April of 2015, performing
at the world famous Bluebird Cafe, The Listening Room, and recorded some new material at two local studios. In 2017 the band traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to record new material at the historic Sun Studios.
