Brothers of the Sea started out

humbly as a dream of Seán playing

out and watching fan and friends

 being absolutely ridiculous and

 enjoying the debauchery and total

silly fun that he experienced

watching good Irish bands. So with

 that dream, and a commitment to

not sound like some dreary folk

band renditions of sleepy traditional

 Irish music, Seán called his brother,

 Brian, and started Bráithres na

Mara. But no-one could pronounce

the name, so they opted for the

English translation

“Brothers of the Sea.”

 

Over the next several years, they

worked steadily towards having

the fun, clapping, shouting, good

 time drinking and shouting music.

Don’t call them a folk band, but

rather a roots rock band where the

roots are Irish drinking songs!
